| Choosing
A Diamond Ring

Does
your center diamond always flop to the side, or does the ring
stay in an attractive position as your hand moves? This problem
sometimes occurs when a large diamond is mounted on a ring.
It can be corrected by choosing a wider band or a band that
is square or oval in shape instead of round. This problem
can also occur if the ring is too big.
Some
of these practical considerations may not apply to you because
of your special needs. The author knows of one man that wanted
a ring to serve as a weapon. He had it designed as a pyramid
coming to a sharp point on top in order to enable him to rip
the skin of an attacker as he punched him in the face. Liberace
had a ring designed to look like a piano. Even if Liberace
had lived in a cold climate, it wouldn't have mattered if
gloves would fit over it.
12/Choosing
a Diamond Ring
Ring
comfort may seem to be a matter of common sense. Yet many
people ignore, factor, particularly when they buy rings through
mail-order or have them custom made. When choosing a ring
ask yourself:
Can you
bend your fingers easily when wearing it? If not, the band
may be too wide. Besides being uncomfortable, it could cause
skin irritation due to collection of moisture~ dirt under
the band. If you like the wide-, broad-ring look, select a
band that tapers j from a wide top to a narrow bottom so that
your finger can bend freely.
Does your ring fit between
your fingers without feeling cumbersome or forcing your hand
into a spread eagle position? Is the ring too tight or too
loose? This can be corrected by resizing the ring. If your
band is more than 3/8" (10 mm.) wide, it will probably
need to be a half size larger than when;
