Know
what types of diamond flaws and cutting defects to avoid.

merchandise on customers interested in price rather than value.
When
judging prices, try to compare diamonds of the same shape,
size. c cut quality. Compare mountings with the same metal
type, weight, setting styles, And workmanship. All of these
factors affect the cost of a diamond ring. Due to the complexity
of jewelry pricing, it's easiest for a layperson to compare
diamonds or rings that are alike.Compare per carat diamond
prices, not stone prices (the total cost of a diamond). Chapter

Look
at several diamonds so you have a basis for comparison.
Do not assume that all jewelers grade diamonds in the same
way. Some jewelers are more strict than others, so grades
can be misleading. That's why it's important for you to understand
how to judge diamond quality and to look at diamonds under
magnification before buying them.
Even diamonds accompanied by grading reports or certificates
should be viewed carefully by the buyer. Many of these written
evaluations, even from reputable labs, do not give a good
description of the quality of the cut or the degree of brilliance.
Beware of sales or ads that seem too good to be true. The
advertised merchandise might be of unacceptable quality or
it might have been stolen or misrepresented. Jewelers are
in business to make money not to lose it.
